FTP is an acronym for File Transfer Protocol – a pretty popular method of exchanging website files between a computer and a server. With an FTP software program such as CuteFTP or FileZilla, you can establish a connection to the server and check its content in one pane, while the files on your computer will be displayed in another pane within the program window. All you’ll need to do to send files or whole directories in either direction is to mark them and then to drag them from one pane to the other. FTP is used by a lot of users because you can create different FTP accounts and each of them can be limited to connect to just one single directory on the server, so a web designer, for example, can do their task without being able to see any other folder in your website hosting account. Plus, the presence of different FTP accounts will also permit you to build multiple websites using web design applications such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage and to upload them to their corresponding directories on the server.

FTP Accounts in Shared Web Hosting

You will be able to set up as many FTP accounts as you wish with each of the shared web hosting that we’re offering, because we’ve decided not to restrict this feature. Thus, you can run multiple Internet sites at the same time or give other persons access to separate directories. As soon as a particular task has been fulfilled and you do not want that individual to be able to access your web files any longer, you can edit the password for the FTP account or you can just delete the account with several clicks and stop worrying about anyone accessing it again. The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with all shared accounts, will permit you to view the complete list of the existing FTP accounts displayed in alphabetical order. It takes only one click of the mouse to administer different options for any of them – to change the password or the access path, to download an auto-config file, etc.

FTP Accounts in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you host your websites under a semi-dedicated server account, you’ll be able to set up a different FTP account for each of them, as we haven’t set a limit on this functionality with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. You can do this via the FTP section of our easy-to-work-with Hepsia Control Panel where you can also see the full list of all the FTP accounts that you have created, along with the folder that each one of them can connect to. If necessary, you will be able to update the password for a certain FTP account or to modify its access path with several clicks. You can also delete an account without any effort in case you no longer require it – for example, if you have hired a web designer who’s finished with the website and you don’t want them to be able to access your files any longer. For convenience’s sake, we have prepared a number of video tutorials, which will help you manage your FTP accounts with ease in case you have never used a hosting service before.
